SHOWBIZ: A date with Kenny Rogers


COUNTRY pop legend Kenny Rogers may be 74, but he is showing no signs of slowing down when it comes to his musical career.

The gifted singer, songwriter, musician, producer, actor, photographer and entrepreneur has a few upcoming tours lined up, and they include his first concert here, An Evening With Kenny Rogers, on Oct 23 at Arena Of Stars, Resorts World Genting.

For many years, Rogers has delivered memorable songs, drawing fans from many different backgrounds. Though he has been most successful with country music, he has charted more than 120 hit singles across various music genres, topping the country and pop album charts for more than 200 individual weeks in the United States alone.

Widely known for his instantly identifiable vocal style and an extraordinary ability to vividly inhabit each song he performs, Rogers has sold more than 120 million records worldwide and recorded more than 65 albums throughout his 54-year career.

He is the RIAA’s 8th best selling male artist of all time with one diamond album, 19 platinum and 31 gold albums.

He has created an impressive list of 24 number-one hits that include The Gambler, Lady, She Believes In Me, We’ve Got Tonight and Islands In The Stream.

Two of his albums, The Gambler and Kenny, are featured in the poll of The 200 Most Influential Country Albums Ever. His Greatest Hits album has sold over 24 million copies worldwide to date.

Rogers was also one of the 45 artistes who recorded the worldwide charity song We Are The World to support hunger victims in Africa.

Before Rogers ventured into his solo career, he was involved in several groups such as the Scholars, the Bobby Doyle Three, The New Christy Minstrels and The First Edition being the most prominent one featuring hits like

Something’s Burning, Reuben James, Ruby, Don’t Take Your Love To Town and Just Dropped In (To See What Condition My Condition Was In).
