RAMADAN is here and terrestrial and private TV stations have come out with special programmes for the whole month.
Geng Surau, Season 2 (Astro Oasis, channel 106, Monday to Thursday, 6.30pm)
A comedy series about villagers who want to build a new mosque. Starring Razak Ahmad and Beto Kushairy.
Insyaallah Ada Jalan (Astro Oasis, channel 106, Monday to Friday, 5.30pm)
Starring international singing sensation Maher Zain and Fadli of Indonesian rock band Padi, this is about Maher’s journey in Indonesia in his search for his friend, Basofi. Joined by Fadli, they face the reality of life and help and support unfortunate people they meet on the way.
Masihkah Ada Ramadan (Astro Prima, channel 105, Monday, 10pm)
This series is about a mother who tries to save her child from committing sinful acts. Starring Wan Hanafi Su, Eman Manan and Zamarul Hisham.
Keluarga Iskandar (Astro Prima, channel 105, Tuesday at 10pm)
About the goings-on in a family headed by Mak Jah who has six children. Starring Kismah Johar, Jalil Hamid, Rashidi Ishak, Melissa Maureen and Melissa Saila.
Upin & Ipin Ramadan (Astro Ceria, channel 611, daily, 12.25pm and 6.25pm)
Funny and filled with positive messages, this popular animated series centres on two adorable twins as they observe fasting.
Hello Bro... Tolong Masak! (Astro Ria, channel 104, daily, 6pm)
First in Malaysia, this cooking show sees chef Nik Michael of MasterChef Malaysia fame cooking up a storm based on what the celebrities like and, at the same time, raises funds for charity.
Akustika Ramadan (TV3, Tuesday, 11pm)
Comprising four episodes, the show offers acoustic performances by Hafiz AF, Hujan, Al-Mawlid, Rabbani, Hazama, Monoloque and Altimet. There is also a segment hosted by Ustaz Karim Elias and Prof. Izzi Ali who will be discussing issues related to Ramadan. Datuk Aziz Satar, Imuda, Sathi and the Osbon duo are also featured with celebrity guests like Neelofa, Diana Amir and Nur Fathia.
Qari Junior (TV3, Monday to Friday, 9pm)
This new 20-episode reality show teaches children aged 7-12 how to read the Al-Quran.
Al-Quran Menjawab Bersama Dr Danial Zainal Abidin (TV9, Wednesday and Thursday, 6.30pm)
Writer and motivational speaker Dr Danial connects Science to the Al-Quran in this eight episode programme. He talks about how the universe was formed, the creation of mankind and the purpose of life.
Umrah Kita (TV9, Monday, 11pm)
Three young celebrities from different backgrounds — a singer/songwriter Aizat, rock artiste Noh and hip-hop star Altimet perform the umrah in Mecca and Madinah.
Mencari Resipi Temurun (TV9, Monday and Tuesday, 6.30pm)
Hosted by young celebrity chef Anis Nabila, this eight- episode cooking travelogue discovers traditional Malay cuisine in Africa, Australia, Makassar and Cape Town.
Ayat Riwayat on TV AlHijrah (Astro, channel 114, daily, 6.30pm)
Hosted by Shahrizan Daud At-Turabi, this special documentary brings viewers to Egypt.
Reflections — Ramadan Special (TV AlHijrah, Friday, 10pm)
Taking turns as host, Imam Suhaib Webb and Syeikh Ismail Musa Menk interact with the studio audience about the holy month and the religion.
Tetap Maghrib (TV2, Saturday, 9pm)
Hanim wants to return to the righteous path. However, she has to deal with the negative perception people have of her. Starring Eira Syazira, Razali Hussain, Rafidah Ibrahim, Farah Nadia Zulkifli and Khatijah Tan.
Baitul Rahmat (TV1, daily, 7.30pm)
This 26-episode drama series tells of siblings Hashim, Hanim and Husna who send their mother to an old folks home instead of taking care of her. Starring Azza and Yatt.
