Celebrity chef Anis Nabila’s trip to Europe is among TV9’s highlights during Ramadan, writes Dennis Chua
BUBBLY Anis Nabila Umaruddin spent 20 days in Europe recently, visiting nine destinations in four countries — France, Germany, Belgium and The Netherlands — where she had a great time discovering classic European recipes.
The host of Mencari Resepi Turun-Temurun says: “It’s my second visit to Europe as I was there on holiday some years ago. But this time, I got to cook at major tourist landmarks such as Eiffel Tower in Paris. My favourite destination was Nuremberg in Germany, which is rich in architectural history.”
For Ramadan, Anis’ show at 6.37pm every Monday and Tuesday on TV9, is all about the Europe tour.
Previously, Anis visited Phuket in Thailand, and South Africa. Produced by Ezzah Aziz Fawzy, the show is in its third season. Ezzah says: “The show introduces dishes from around the world and features creative chefs who prepare original recipes from their home countries.”
Another show, Safiyya, will also have an interesting Ramadan season. Its producer, Marwatif Amer, says it will focus on DIY activities for women during the fasting month.
“Women viewers will get to know all about the health benefits of the fasting month, activities to do to stay mentally alert and positive and, of course, creative fashion,” she says.
Host Liyana Hisham says there is also a special santai segment where viewers will be introduced to restaurants offering scrumptious menus for berbuka puasa. Safiyya is screened at 11am every Sunday.
The Hari Raya Aidil Fitri episode will be about sharing the festive occasion with underprivileged children from the Jalinan Kasih children’s home. “It’ll feature a visit to Taiwan with 20 youngsters from the home,” says Liyana.
TV9’s Ramadan theme this year is Seindah Ramadan. Its general manager Zurina Othman, says the channel will team up with TV3 to present Bazaar Seindah Ramadan at Johor Baru (July 13) and Kuala Terengganu (July 27).
The bazaar will bring fans closer to television personalities from both stations who will also be involved in charitable activities for underprivileged children and senior citizens.
Tanyalah Ustaz also has a Ramadan edition at 7am, live from the Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Mosque in Shah Alam, while Pesan Atok, every Monday to Thursday at 8am, is back for a second season. It features useful advice for youngsters from religious scholar Datuk Abu Hasan Din.
Zurina says Menu Kalimah is a new Ramadan series aired every Wednesday at 6.37pm, and features foods recommended in the Islamic scriptures. It will be hosted by Chef Rizal and Ustaz Mohd Safwan Syafiq.
Surah We Read The Most, part of the International Speaker Series, is aired every Thursday at 6.37pm. Another programme in this series, A Touch Of Faith, is on every Friday at 6.37pm, hosted by Sheikh Yahya Ibrahim.
Ustaz Haslin Baharin and producer Ahmad Noor Sulaiman are back with Al-Quran Menjawab at 9.30pm on Fridays while Jom Berbuka at 6.37pm on Saturdays and Sundays features breaking fast with celebrities such as Rozita Che Wan, Zain Saidin and Hafiz Suip as well as footballer Khairul Fahmi Che Mat (Apek).
The Skrin Di 9 slot, which is usually at 8.30pm on Wednesdays, is moved to Mondays, while the 9X slot, featuring drama series Tanah Merah remains at 10.30pm on Mondays.
Skrin Di 9 offers Di Pintu Maghrifah and stars Lisdawati as a woman with eyesight problems. After she gets a cornea transplant that restores her eyesight, she tries to look for the donor. Also starring Zamarul Hisham and Azza Suaymi.
The Ratu Slot will showcase 14-episode drama series Sirrun at 8.30pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. It stars Anzalna Nasir and Zarina Zainoordin and tells the story of two close friends with different personalities. Their friendship is put to the test when they marry the same man.
Korean drama slot Chamsarang comes on at 9.30pm on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. Showing currently is Arang And The Magistrate, a story about a young woman who is brutally murdered. Her ghost returns to help the magistrate hunt for her killers. Stars Yun Woo Jin and Kwon Oh Jong.
With Man Of Steel doing well in cinemas, television’s popular Superman series, Smallville, will be aired at 10.30pm on Wednesdays. Watch out for more earth-shattering challenges that will shape the character of Superman a.k.a. Clark Kent. Smallville is in its ninth season and stars Tom Welling, Kristin Kreuk and Allison Mack.
On Tuesdays, catch Dream Sisters at 10.30pm, featuring sisters Anis, Aimi, Amira and Aisya Umaruddin. The eight-episode show focuses on their common interests and current plans.
