Stellar music from Iceland

MY Head Is An Animal is the debut album of Iceland’s sextet, Of Monsters And Men.

The six-member chamber pop group won a nationwide battle-of-the-bands competition called  Musiktilraunir in 2010.

This alternative folk band, led by Nanna Bryndis Hilmarsdottir and Ragnar Porhallsson, was soon being compared with Arcade Fire. Its debut album, under Universal Music, is meeting music fans’ expectations.

Bolstering the stellar voices are a veritable modern orchestra including instruments like horns, the accordion, glockenspiel, piano and guitars. The album is filled with catchy melodies and sing along choruses.

The first single, Little Talks, has a “jugalbandi” and chants in the chorus, all to blasting trumpets.

The album is a fun listen all the way through the 12 tracks.
