Catch the Hong Kong superstar in concert in Kuala Lumpur

HONG Kong superstar Sandy Lam performs at 8pm tomorrow at Stadium Negara, Jalan Hang Jebat, Kuala Lumpur.

Lam, 46, started in show business at 16 as a deejay for Commercial Radio Hong Kong. In 1984, she recorded her first single, I Don’t Know About Love. Her early songs were up-tempo and Japanese in style, but she soon ventured into R&B.

In 1991, she released the ground-breaking Wildflower album to rave reviews. She gained popularity in Taiwan with her debut Mandarin release, Home Again Without You, in 1991.

In 1995, she teamed up with Taiwanese producer Jonathan Lee to release her fourth Mandarin album, Love, Sandy featuring the hit single Scars. It became one of the best-selling Chinese language albums of all time. Since then, Lam has moved beyond the Hong Kong music scene and spends most of her time in Taiwan, China, and Japan. Her 2006 Mandarin album, Breathe Me, was recorded in South Korea, Taiwan, China and Hong Kong. Her 2000 hit single At Least I Still Have You, was remade by South Korean group Super Junior-M in 2008.

She proved her versatility as a lyricist by writing four songs for her 2001 album Truly Sandy. In the same year she appeared in British producer Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber’s concert Masterpiece which also featured
Elaine Paige.

Lam has won many awards in the course of her career, including Best Regional Female Artiste, Best Album, Best Female Vocalist and Asia Pacific Most Outstanding Female Artiste. She is now working on her 16th Cantonese album.
