Move to the sexy groove of salsa and jazz music this weekend

JOIN Eric Li and his Latin Jazz Band for a weekend of high energy salsa and jazz in Alexis Bistro, Great Eastern Mall, Jalan Ampang, Kuala Lumpur.

Their performances today and tomorrow feature music from mainstream jazz classics to more contemporary repertoire with tunes from Chucho Valdes, Irakere, Michel Camilo, Paquito D’Rivera and his own original compositions.
Li’s band comprises some of KL’s finest musicians, who have performed at jazz festivals in Southeast Asia, South Africa, Japan, South Korea and China. He has worked and recorded with well-known musicians internationally and regionally. They include the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra , Nestor Torres, Wang Lee Hom, Michelle Nicole, Steve Thornton, Jose Thomas, Denise Minifield, Angelita Li, Ruth Sahanaya and Rossa.

Li would love to team up with American musicians Erykah Badu and Quincy Jones. In 2006, he arranged and performed in Puteri Gunung Ledang The Musical that was staged at Istana Budaya in Kuala Lumpur. He was nominated for Best Performer in the Cameronian Arts Awards 2006. Li has also directed and composed music for TV commercials and short films.

“I count Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Camilo and Valdes as my major musical influences. I love Alexis because it has a very enthusiastic crowd that loves good music,” Li says, adding that he adores Latin music because it “makes you move”.

Admission is free. The shows start at 10pm. Call 03-4260 2288.
