WEEKEND WATCH: In search of delicacies

WITH the start of Ramadan tomorrow, TV stations are lining up special programmes this weekend, as well as other regular entertainment shows.

Tune in to Bazaar Ramadan (TV3, Sunday, 5pm), a programme which goes in search of delicacies for breaking fast. Join actor/TV host Fizo Omar as he travels to a number of locations in the country.

Tomorrow, new interactive programme Solusi debuts (TV3 6.02pm). Host Ustaz Ahmad Husni helps find solutions to your everyday questions and gives tips and advice.

A new season of award-winning documentary Jejak Rasul returns tomorrow at 6.30pm on TV3. It takes viewers through two decades, revisiting the glory days of Prophets from the creation of mankind to the last Prophet Muhammad S.A.W.

In Singgah Sahur (Sunday, 12.45am) the TV3 team travels around the country to prepare sahur for the less fortunate. Popular TV station personalities taking part include Ally Iskandar, Nurul Syuhada, Teh Syuhada, Zakiah Anas, Irin Putri and Zainal Ariffin.

An exciting children’s animation, Ramadan Mat Jo, airs tomorrow on TV1 at 9.30am. It’s about how Mat and his family observe the holy month.

A new series Mentua vs Mentua debuts Sunday on TV3 at 6.02pm. This light comedy starring Ebby Yus, Liza Abdullah, Kaza, Maimunah Talib, Iqram Dinzly, Tunku Hanis, Zoey and Mimie Harris, revolves around Mak Hasnah and Mak Timah who enjoy bickering. This time, it’s a question on where their children should be breaking fast on the first day of Ramadan.

Other shows this weekend include Awal Lagi (TV9, tomorrow, 8.30pm) with popular host Awal Ashaari. This week, he and guests Maya Karin, Linda Onn and Ahmad Idham discuss the meaning of popularity.

If you’re a fan of British-Irish boy band One Direction, catch TV Special at 10am tomorrow on 8TV when they perform hit singles What Makes You Beautiful, Gotta Be You, and One Thing.

For a behind-the-scene peek at romantic comedy The Five Year Engagement, watch The Making of... over ntv7 (Sunday at 2.30pm). Starring Jason Segel, Emily Blunt and Chris Pratt, the movie is about Tom, who after proposing to his girlfriend, Violet, finds unexpected events keep tripping them up as they look to walk down the aisle together.
 
TOMORROW

THE SASQUATCH GANG (TV9, 10.30pm)

Young, fantasy and sci-fi aficionado Gavin Gore and his friends find huge footprints in the woods. A local cop, reporter and a Sasquatch authority investigate. Meanwhile two of Gavin’s dim-witted neighbours hatch a scheme to profit from the situation. Starring Justin Long, Jeremy Sumpter and Addie Land.

16 WISHES (TV3, 11.30pm)
On her 16th birthday, a fairy gives Abby Jensen 16 candles that will make 16 wishes come true. But after all her wishes come true, she is still not happy. Starring Debby Ryan, Jean-Luc Bilodeau, Anna Mae Wills and Karissa Tynes.

KILLER HAIR (TV2, 2pm)
A fashion reporter stumbles upon a murder investigation only to find her ex-lover is the police detective assigned to the case. Starring Maggie Lawson, Sadie LeBlanc and Sarah Edmondson.

BLACK DAWN (TV2, 10pm)
Jonathan Cold returns. This time he goes undercover to stop a group of terrorists before they blow up Los Angeles. Starring Steven Seagal, Tamara Davies and John Pyper-Ferguson.

KOYLA (TV3, 2pm)
In this Hindi movie, elderly Rajasaheb wants to marry young Gauri but as she has never met him, she wants to see a picture of him first. Rajasaheb sends a picture of his faithful but deaf and mute servant, Shanker, instead. Starring Shah Rukh Khan, Madhuri Dixit, Amrish Puri, Ranjeet, Salim Ghouse and Deepshika.

FONG SAI YUK (8TV, 8.30pm)
This Hong Kong martial-arts extravaganza is about revolution and love. The secret Red Lotus Flower Society is committed to overthrowing the Manchu emperor. Starring Jet Li, Lung Chan, Sung Young Chen and Adam Cheng.


SUNDAY

GREASE (TV2, midnight)

Good girl Sandy and greaser Danny fall in love over summer. But when they unexpectedly discover they’re now in the same high school, will they be able to rekindle their romance? Starring John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John and Stockard Channing.

THE PURSUIT OF HAPPYNESS (TV3, 1am)
Based on the true story about Christopher Gardner who is forced to live in the street with his son. Starring Will Smith, Jaden Smith, Thandie Newton, Brian Howe, James Karen and Dan Castellaneta.

MISSING IN ACTION 3 (TV3, 10.30pm)
Twelve years after the war ended, James Braddock returns to Vietnam to rescue his Vietnamese wife and son as well as a group of orphans being held in a prison camp. Starring Chuck Norris, Aki Aleong and Roland Harrah III.

THE DEADLY PLEDGE (NTV7, 11pm)
College freshman Samantha Willows looks to pledge a sorority, not realising that it is haunted by a former pledge seeking revenge on those who had wronged her. Starring Leighton Meester, Kailin See and Lisa Marie Caruk.
