A local label delivers luxury in its traditional Raya wear, writes Tengku Nor Azah

PUTRA Aziz, Cosry’s head of design, needs no introduction in the local fashion industry. From silver screen queens Erra Fazira and Lisa Surihani to Indonesian sweetheart Bunga Citra Lestari, Putra has dressed them all on their wedding days.

Known for his intricate detailing and elaborate designs, Putra has garnered his own set of followers. Cosry has launched Purple Label, a collection of premium ready-to-wear.

Perfectly timed for the Aidilfitri celebrations, the label launched its Raya Collection 2012 at the Terrace, The Curve in Petaling Jaya, with models showcasing 36 of the latest designs.

The opening of Cosry Purple Label boutique is yet another milestone for the fashion label which has humble beginnings in Section 4 Shah Alam seven years ago.

“We are elated to have a strong following today. It is an exciting moment for us”, says Ariff Quasri Md Nor, managing director of Cosry Ventures Sdn Bhd.

“We have invested around RM800,000 to set up the new boutique. There are 300 pieces of the Raya Collection 2012 and we hope to sell them all by the end of Ramadan,” says its new director Najmie Noordin.

    REACHING OUT

“Although Cosry apparel has long been associated with a particular social group, we are experimenting to incorporate designs which will be more appealing to all. The approach will be more subtle and refined while still maintaining Cosry’s signature styles,” adds Putra who brings his interpretation of Malay classics like modern kebaya, printed baju kurung and kaftans together with re-interpretations of the popular jubah to Cosry Purple Label. There are beaded baju kurung, glamorous kaftan with flattering cuts, striking printed jubah and of course, Putra’s personal favourite — lace kebaya.

Alterations, at RM58, are available at the boutique.

“We use French and corded lace for kebaya and Italian chiffon for kaftan. Finishings are all made in-house with most of the materials sourced from Indonesia, so it’s like an Indo-Malay fusion,” Najmie explains.
Separate accessories like beaded belts and custom-made shoes are also available at the new boutique at The Curve.

    NEW FACE

Cosry Purple Label also unveiled its brand ambassador for the year, budding actress Izara Aishah who, they believe, will appeal to the younger set and pave the way for Cosry to move forward.

“We hope the collaboration will be fruitful and Cosry’s fans are delighted with the collection,” says the petite actress who wore Cosry at this year’s Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian.

    New in store

Clothes in the Purple Label collection are priced between RM1,000 and RM2,000. Standard sizes of S, M and L are available for the kurung and kebaya while the kaftan is in freesize.
