Nail it yourself

Here are six steps for an easy DIY manicure.

    CLEANSE
Wash your hands, scrub your nails with a nail brush and dry your hands with a towel before removing old nail polish with nail polish remover and cotton balls.

    FILE
Take an emery board and file the fine side across your nail at a 45-degree angle. Work from the edges of your nail to the middle in only one direction to prevent nails from splitting.

    SOFTEN
Rub cuticle oil on your cuticles and soak your nails in a bowl of warm soapy water for a few minutes to soften them. Dry your nails and then rub in some hand cream. Then dip a cotton bud in cuticle remover and gently push your cuticles backwards.

    BASE COAT
Remove any traces of cuticle remover with tissue and water. Apply a base coat to protect your nails from discolouring and prevent your polish from chipping.

    APPLY NAIL POLISH
With your nails prepped, apply a coat of nail polish on top of the base coat. To ensure it’s streak-free, use one stroke down the middle of nail and one on each side. Wait till the first coat has dried before applying a second coat.

    FINAL TOUCH
To finish, apply a top coat over nail polish as well as under and along the tip of your nail to guard against chipping and to seal the polish. To clean the edges of your nails and cuticle, dip a cotton bud in nail polish remover and wipe off smears.
