SHOWBIZ: Help for aspiring musicians

IF you’re looking for the right medium to kick start your career in music, Karnival Chinta Muzik Selangor is the place for you.

The debut effort that aims to bring music closer to the public, is the brainchild of Persatuan Karyawan Malaysia, with support from Yayasan Tabung Amanah Muhibbah (Tamu) dan Majlis Belia Selangor (MBS).

Karyawan president Datuk Freddie Fernandez says the carnival is one of the efforts undertaken by the association to help develop the music industry.

“We also aim to deliver better understanding about music to the public and hope aspiring musicians will benefit from this.”

Several locations have been identified to pioneer the project, including Gombak, Shah Alam and Petaling Jaya.

“It will be a month-long affair and we will probably launch it next month. We have discussed the idea to hold the carnival outside the Klang Valley and a decision will be made later,”  says Freddie.

Among the artistes who will take part in the carnival are Yazid of rock band Search, Andy Flop Poppy, Radhi OAG, Jay Jay, Datin Paduka Julie Sudiro and Salwa Abd Rahman.

“We are still awaiting confirmation from other artistes. I believe that with the support of everyone, the carnival will be a success,” he says, adding that corporate companies are encouraged to join the event.

“It’s not easy to organise this carnival. It demands commitment and the cost is also a challenge,” he said, adding that contributions from the corporate sector are welcome.”

Highlights include a karaoke competition, battle of the bands competition, forums and music classes, among others.

“Experienced musicians will be conducting the music classes.  It’s free for the public,” he says.
