A new bronzing powder that delivers subtle blush changes Sushma Veera’s perception about the product
WHEN it comes to make-up, I believe less is more and I always settle for just the basic needs.
Perhaps it’s because I am neither good at picking the right colours for my skin tone, nor am I good at applying them. But I love make-up items, regardless whether I use them or just to add to my collection.
So, when I was given three items to try, I was excited. The three are all part of Chanel’s limited edition for Summer 2012 called Summertime de Chanel.
It took me a while to figure out what to do with the Harmonie Poudre de Soleil (RM172). Ahh... this is a bronzing powder, you silly, I told myself.
I don’t own a bronzer, being under the impression that it only suits those with fair skin, but I am proved wrong. The bronzing powder comes in two shades — Sable Beige to set off darker complexions with a hint of gold and Sable Rose with intense pink shades that make fair cheekbones blush.
Mine was Sable Beige. The colours in the palette were colour blocks of beiges and browns, from the softest to the most intense.
I swirled and used it as a blush, giving a little definition without looking too obvious. The next day, I tried it as a bronzer, very lightly.
The natural earth tones complimented my complexion well, giving it a beautiful peach tone glow. No muddiness, orange undertones or streaks. Although the powder looks shimmery, it is hardly noticeable on skin. Instead, it adds a nice luminous glow.
What I like the most is that I only need a few swipes across my face and neck to achieve a flattering glow.
THE LIPS HAVE IT
There are two limited edition lip shades. The Rouge Coco Shine in Empreinte (RM95) is a sheer nude with a tint of micro-glitters. When I say sheer, it is really sheer.
Although in the tube it looks like a soft nude, it hardly makes any difference on lips, even when I apply a heavy coat.
So what I do is to use a slightly darker lip liner and then apply the lipstick to get a presentable hue. I like the light dainty rose flavour and scent as well as the golden glitter that sparkles in the light.
It is also very easy to apply as it glides smoothly across my lips and is very moisturising. Not sticky at all and it doesn’t dry out my lips. Overall I like it and it’s my full-time companion at work, despite its limited wear time.
The Calypso lip gloss (RM84) is a stunning bright medium orange with hint of pink and fuchsia micro shimmer. It is lightweight, moisturising and cushiony. On the lips, Calypso transforms into a beautiful medium orange with coral undertones.
It is perfect for those who are afraid of intense bright shades on the lips but want to be on trend with a pop of coral or tangerine.
