KUALA LUMPUR: What is it about Hari Raya Aidifitri open house that make them interesting and so much a part of Malaysia's culture?
An "open house" is a concept where all are welcome without any formal invitation to join in the festivities.
Open house is normally held during the four main religious celebrations in the country, namely, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas.
Rendang tok, ketupat palas, lemang, sate and dodol are among some of the dishes served that make Hari Raya open house a compulsory "must do" activity.
Relatives and friends flock to these open house functions to savour the delicious home-cooked meals while enjoying the hospitality that is unique to the Malaysian society.
During open house, leaders, from royalty to politicians, open their doors to visitors from all over the country, regardless of background.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, welcomed more than 100,000 visitors to Seri Perdana, his official residence, on the first day of Raya.
He was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife, Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman, and other cabinet members.
