Open house is normally held during the four main religious celebrations in the country, namely, Hari Raya Aidilfitri, Chinese New Year, Deepavali and Christmas.

During open house, leaders, from royalty to politicians, open their doors to visitors from all over the country, regardless of background.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak and his wife, Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, welcomed more than 100,000 visitors to Seri Perdana, his official residence, on the first day of Raya.
He was accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and his wife, Puan Sri Norainee Abdul Rahman, and other cabinet members.
