Eighteen male celebrities will cook a dish that is special to them in Diva Universal’s new cooking show. Tune in for recipes, ... and secrets, writes Loong Wai Ting

IN Diva Universal’s (Astro channel 702) new series, Hot Guys Who Cook, viewers can expect a feast for their eyes as 18 “hot” guys from around Asia cook up a storm.

They include model/TV host Jason Godfrey, food columnist Erwan Heusaff, host Josiah Mizukami, race car driver Alex Yoong, former MTV VJ Utt, as well as actors George Young and Tom Price, and models Drew Rivera and Victor Basa.

Young, who is of Greek and Chinese parentage (his father is a Malaysian Chinese), started out as a lawyer before going into modelling and hosting TV shows in Britain and across Asia. He was the guest host for Fun Taiwan, Season 10 (episode 1) along with host Janet Hsieh.

In the show, Young will attempt to cook his signature beef steak wrap, which he calls “George’s Celebratory Wrap”.

“It’s a personal dish and I made it quite a few times when I was based in London. But I haven’t done my dish for about a year. So, it’ll be interesting to ‘re-visit’ it. Expect a lot of bloopers too, which will appear at the end of the credits,” he said with a laugh at the launch of the series at The Food Studio at Mont Kiara.

Also present at the launch were Golding and Mizukami.

“My recipe,” said Golding who is of English and Iban heritage, “ the roast chicken, was passed down from my mother. It’s a traditional Sunday family dish.” Golding, who was a hair stylist before co-hosting The Quickie on 8TV in 2008, said “the dishes presented in the show are very personal to each of the cooks.”

Golding was last seen in Without Boundaries, where he takes viewers to some of Malaysia’s most beautiful holiday destinations. He is set to appear in The Borneo Incident, a thriller done in the found-footage style.

For the 30-minute show, three men will each cook their signature dish. While preparing their dishes, they will share personal experiences and stories about cooking.

“It’s a simple and fun show. It’s something everyone can relate to and enjoy,” Golding added. “There are personal reasons behind each dish that we prepare and that makes it more interesting.”

Hot Guys Who Cook airs every Monday beginning tomorrow at 9pm over Diva Universal (Astro channel 702).
