DIAN P. RAMLEE BEING the adopted child of the late, great entertainer Tan Sri P. Ramlee never made her feel left out for he loved her just the same as his biological son Nasir.

While Dian P. Ramlee (born Salfarina Mum in Singapore on Aug 9, 1958) did not have the musical talent of her father, she worked hard to become a respected actress and television personality in her own right.

Dian is today a regular in cinema and television movies and drama series, and her most recent movie is KRU’s 29 Februari where she plays Sakinah, the mother of the story’s centurion protagonist Budi Halim (Remy Ishak).

A versatile actress, she is often seen playing the roles of matriarchs, be they businesswomen, housewives or Datins.

Dian is equally at home starring alongside veterans as Datuk Ahmad Tarmimi Siregar and Mustapha Kamal as well as newcomers as Liyana Jasmay and Awal Ashaari.

Owing to her father’s larger than life personality, some of the movies Dian has starred in pay tribute to the names of his famous songs.

A notable example is Kau Laksana Bulan two years ago which was also based on a novel by Aina Emir. In this movie Dian starred alongside Ayu Raudhah, Fizo Omar and Zul Huzaimy.

In 2010 too, she lent her voice to the animated movie Budak Lapok directed by Anwardi Jamil.

It was the story of the younger days of the Bujang Lapok trio portrayed in the 1950s and 1960s by her father, S. Shamsuddin and Datuk Aziz Sattar.

Dian’s other notable movies include Bisikan Cinta, Syurga Cinta, Kami The Movie, Niyang Rapik, Sepi, Janji Diana and Aku Masih Dara.

Her television series and dramas include Idaman, Tiada Yang Kedua, Miang Buluh Keladi Birah, Melukut Tepian Gantang, Dari KL Ke Queenstown, Diva-Diva Pencen, Mustika, Zati Dan Mawas and Gelora Di Hati Sara.

Dian was the first host of TV3’s popular women’s magazine Nona back in 1984.

She has also been a regular face on television and print advertisements most notably for Fernleaf milk where she sang her father’s famous song Ibu, and Haliborange fish liver oil.

Dian is married to Mohd Amanti Ahmad.  They have three children.
