Rozana Sani checks out a company which makes special phone cases for the style-conscious

WHAT you wear, the colours you put on, the hairstyle you sport, the footwear you choose, the accessories you carry — these reflect who you are, your personality, your taste and most importantly, how you express yourself.

Since most of us carry a mobile device everywhere we go, why not add on personalised mobile phone and tablet cases to the list?

That’s the idea behind Popmycase (www.popmycase.com), a new company within the PopMyBerry Group which brought one-stop solution centres Popmyapple and Popmyberry for Blackberry accessories and services, and iPhones,

iPod and iPad respectively to the Malaysian public.

With Popmycase launched in May, the group now boasts of being the only company in Asia that is offering personalisation of custom cases for mobile devices. Its services are currently available online.

“Previously, cases were used to merely protect the phone. But as time passes, phone cases are fast becoming an extension of one’s accessories and fashion statement,” says Popmyberry group general manager Edi Yuzri Esa.

“Prior to this, most cases were somewhat uniform in design, colour and shapes. Popmycase gives you a chance to design and customise your own phone cases according to your taste and at your convenience, and create a funky case that is just one of a kind,” he says.

Popmycase cases, he adds, are made from a special material called Lexan which is produced by General Electric in the United States. This special plastic material is durable, possess an optical clarity and more flexible compared with the ordinary plastic cases.

And how does one go about customising a case on the website?

Popmycase group digital director Riz Ainuddin says it is as easy as 1-2-3.

“You can upload any images from your computer or mobile phone and use our online customisation tools to enhance your design. Click and drag your images onto a blank canvas that represents the back of the mobile devices with its exact dimensions. From there, you can either save the design or add it to the cart and checkout,” says Riz.

Customers also have the option of purchasing Popmycase pre-designed collection or collaboration pieces from celebrities and artists. The celebrities include Amy Search and Bunkface, while the group of artists comprise the country’s Spoonman, Nini Marini, Orkibal and Shieko.

“You can customise these cases using art elements found in the artist collaboration pages or simply browse our pre-designed collection and pick up what catches your eyes,” Riz elaborates, adding that Popmycase provides a platform for the fans to be closer to the artists and for the artists to reach out to fans through a new medium.

“What makes cases from Popmycase very exclusive is the printing quality that reflects the true colour or the images. We use a 3-D high resolution ink-embedded process to produce these cases. This intelligent ink transfer process surpasses the current technology of silk screen and heat transfer method. The ink seeps through the casing and trapped underneath its “skin” permanently so it produces immaculate colour that will never fade or peel off, “ he continues.

Pre-designed cases are available from RM98 and customised made-to-order cases are available from RM128. Products will arrive within two to three days from the day of purchase for Malaysia orders and five to seven days for international orders.
