The machine is super fast with Ultrafast Thunderbolt technology and ultra-responsive with Acer Green Instant On technology for fast boot and resume. Acer Instant Connect for multimedia and data management are on all devices.”

The Acer Aspire S5 Ultrabook is available this month at  authorised Acer resellers nationwide at a recommended retail price of RM3,499. The other series are expected to be available later in the year.

Fly faster with PayPal

MALAYSIA Airlines has teamed up with PayPal to become the first airline in Southeast Asia to provide faster and safer mobile payments in as few as two clicks on any Internet-connected mobile device. The national carrier’s MHmobile app and flymas.mobi mobile site now accept PayPal for all its domestic flights and those from Malaysia to international destinations, booked from anywhere in the world.

As an extension of this convenience, PayPal’s mobile checkout experience for Malaysia Airlines flights from other areas will be rolled out in phases.

In conjunction with the launch of this improved customer experience option, Malaysia Airlines’ Enrich will reward members with 500 Enrich miles per transaction made using PayPal on mobile devices until Oct 5.

More interactive experience

SONY Malaysia has launched the VAIO S, E and T series notebooks which come with enhanced Gesture Control to let you interact with programs like Windows Media Player, Windows Internet Explorer 9, Microsoft PowerPoint and CyberLink PowerDVD with a wave, a swipe or rotation movements.

According to Dereck Koh of Sony Malaysia’s VAIO Customer Experience Department, Gesture Control, which was previously introduced via the E Series model (E14P), is now applicable to more programs and is now able to recognise more types of hand movements. “Previously, Gesture Control can only be used with multimedia players but now you can also use it to control presentations and to go back to a previously downloaded page on the Internet Explorer browser,” says Koh.

The three new series also offer PlayMemories Home, a software that ease the organising and editing of photos, home movies and even 3-D content. Another common feature across the new series is the Web button that triggers web browsing with a press without the need to boot the operating system. Prices from RM1,499 to RM3,299.

Smarter home digital system

LOCAL outfit Yeylol Technology has launched a home system that not only organises and updates files, but is also accessible remotely via mobile devices for better control and security.

Its Digital Home System is a single machine that may look just like a slim box with a 19-inch touchscreen, but on closer look, you’ll find that it comes with multiple card readers, USB 2.0 and 3.0 ports, Blu-ray drive, HDMI connectivity and more. The system runs on the Intel Core i3-540 processor and Windows 7 while the rest of the hardware include a 2TB hard disk drive, 8GB RAM and lots of apps.

Easy to set up, the Yeylol system offers a simple user interface that even children and the older generation can get used to. With applications such as Photo Frame, Digital Player, Games, E-learning, Parental Control, Messenger, Karaoke and Alarm,  the system updates your home with modern means. According to Yeylol Technology director Tan Jiang Sing, the homegrown system took years of research and close collaboration with Microsoft. It is also designed as an easy cloud solution for the home powered by the Microsoft Azure platform.

The system, which costs RM6,999, can be connected to a host of other devices including monitors and large, flat screen TVs. Meanwhile, for those who like to karaoke, Yeylol Technology has another package that comes with an amplifier, a receiver, speakers and a mic at  RM9,999. Details at www.yeylol.com.
