Students may redeem RM200 vouchers

KUALA LUMPUR: Starting next month, about 1.2 million local students pursuing tertiary education can redeem their book vouchers, worth a total of RM200, at participating bookstores.

The vouchers, worth RM50 each,  are valid from January to March, and not exchangeable for cash.

Higher Education Minister Datuk Seri Mohd Khaled Nordin said  to qualify, students must ensure that their MyKad numbers and endorsement from institutions of higher learning  were  on the vouchers.

He said the vouchers were redeemable at participating bookstores for purchases of academic books, journals and other materials.

"Bookstore operators can claim their money from Bank Simpanan Nasional until April 30."

Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak had announced during the 2012 Budget that book vouchers would be given to students in public and private  institutions of higher learning and  matriculation, as well as Sixth Formers.
