According to a conclusion adopted by the EU Foreign Affairs Council in Luxembourg, the council froze the assets of six entities and targeted one additional person with a travel ban and an asset freeze.    

The EU condemns the "brutal violence and massacres of civilians" in Syria, and reiterated its full support to UN-Arab League joint envoy for Syria Kofi Annan's mission and his six-point plan.    

It said the EU regretted the escalation of violence had led to the suspension of the United Nations Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS) observation activities on June 16.    

The EU has urged the Syrian National Council and opposition groups to agree on a set of shared principles and start working towards an inclusive, orderly and peaceful transition in Syria.    

It was the 16th round of the EU sanctions against Syria since May 2011, bringing to total the number of persons subject to sanctions to 129 and 49 entities affected by an asset freeze. Bernama
