Ministry mulls new hostel for UiTM Pasir Gudang campus

JOHOR BARU: The Higher Education Ministry is mulling over the proposal to build a new hostel to accommodate 3,000 students of Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM) campus in Pasir Gudang.

Its minister, Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said the facility would be an addition to the hostel built during the first phase of the campus project, which could only accommodate 2,000 students.

"The campus will have the capacity to accommodate up to 5,000 students, but the existing hostel can only accommodate 2,000 students.

"We are considering building another hostel to accommodate 3,000 students under the second phase of the campus project," he said after visiting the project site at Bandar Seri Alam here today.

Developed by Damai Abadi Sdn Bhd, the RM308 million campus project, which is implemented on a 80.94-hectare site, is expected to be completed by June this year and to be fully operational early next year. -- BERNAMA
