Muhyiddin receives Unicef representative

KUALA LUMPUR: Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin today received the United Nations Children's Fund (Unicef) representative to Malaysia, Wivina Belmonte, at his office in Parliament House, here.

Present were Unicef Malaysia deputy representative Dr Victor Karunan as well as its Monitoring and Evaluation officer Dr Nur Anuar Abdul Muthalib.

The meeting lasted about half-an-hour.

Belmonte assumed the leadership of Unicef's country programme in Malaysia in July this year.

The national of Spain and Canada has been with Unicef since 2001, most recently serving as Communications deputy director at the Unicef headquarters in New York.

The UN agency is tasked with protecting the rights of children and young people.-- BERNAMA
