Portrait of Bhopal

WITH global politics, high-stakes activism and human rights in the mix, History Channel’s special Bhopali is worth a watch.

It explores the victims’ ongoing fight for justice and corporate responsibility, almost 30 years after the world's worst industrial disaster in which thousands were killed and up to half a million suffered terrible illnesses. Today, 100,000 remain chronically ill.

It airs Sunday, 8pm on Astro Channel 555.

The Story Of Mankind

THE story of the human race, Mankind The Story Of All Of Us, is an epic 12-hour miniseries from History Channel. Two years in the making, the series was filmed all over the world, including China, South Africa and Morocco.
Mankind offers a look at the history of the human race through the ages, but in a cinematic way. Expect advanced CGI and dramatic reconstruction of some of the most critical events in human history.

The series also examines what unique characteristics helped us survive on this harsh brutal planet, against all odds.

In every episode, the path of mankind’s progress will be unlocked through a set of “keys”. These will range from the first tools to the construction of the pyramids, culminating in the industrial revolution and the making of the modern world.

Through geology, astronomy, meteorology and physics, the series delves into the forces of nature, exploring mankind's ability to harness such natural powers through engineering, science and innovation to assure their survival.

Interestingly, the series is also supported by a worldwide educational initiative, details of which will be released nearer to the telecast date.

Mankind The Story Of All Of Us will premiere globally in October.

EdVentures In Asia

SINGER Barbra Streisand once offered him a job as her personal chef, while former US president George W. Bush went into the kitchen to personally shake his hand. This year, Edward Kwon set off on a trip of a lifetime in Life Inspired's new and original production called EdVentures In Asia.

This 13-episode series sees the former head chef of the Burj Al Arab in Dubai taking a road trip around Asia for one purpose — to create new dishes by infusing Korean elements into Asian cuisine.
On his journey, Kwon will visit some of Asia’s best chefs and experience the tastes that they offer. He will hit locales from the well-known to those off the beaten path and points in between. He will then use what he’s seen and learnt to experiment with age-old recipes and to put a personal spin on it.

Kwon was born in Korea in 1971. He worked as an intern at Ritz-Carlton Hotel in Seoul in 1995, which opened up an opportunity to work at Ritz Carlton in San Francisco in 2001. Holding on to the belief that extensive knowledge is needed to become a true chef, he went to other parts of the world such as China and Dubai for a deeper understanding of Asian cuisine. In 2007, he took up the offer to become head chef at Burj Al Arab.

Since then, Kwon has opened a few restaurants in Seoul and recently filmed a few TV programmes, including Yes Chef, which stirred a lot of excitement in Korea. Currently, he serves as Seoul’s global goodwill ambassador, as well as Korea’s tourism ambassador.

EdVentures In Asia on Life Inspired (Astro Channel 706) will have its premiere on May 27 at 9pm.
