HONOURING LOCALS: Popular artistes to perform during Malaysia Day bash
KUCHING: HAFIZ AF7 (Mohd Hafiz Mohd Suip) of Akademi Fantasia 7 fame and Anak Kampung Jimmy Palikat are among a host of popular artistes who have been invited to perform at the Malaysia Day celebrations in Bintulu on Sunday.
Popular Iban singer Andrewson Ngalai and violinist Nisa Adinna Mohd Taufik have also been invited to perform at the celebration bash on the runway of the old Bintulu airport.
Hafiz shot to fame after winning the seventh edition of a reality television show, Akademi Fantasia. Among his popular songs are Masih Jelas and Awan Nano.
Hafiz is also the winner of two categories at the 26th Anugerah Juara Lagu for best song and best vocals.
He was also voted as the most popular singer at the prestigious Anugerah Bintang Popular Berita Harian 2012 .
Andrewson may not be a household name outside Sarawak but one of his hit songs, Bekikis Bulu Betis, a song portraying what life is like to keep a wife with expensive tastes, has been given a new rendition and lyrics to turn it into a patriotic song, with the title Wawasan Bekikis Bulu Betis.
Andrewson debuted the wawasan version at the recent national-level Merdeka Day celebrations in Kuala Lumpur.
He was specifically invited by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak for the performance.
Nisa, who was under the tutelage of one of Indonesia's foremost violinists, Idris Sardi, is expected to showcase the talent that won her the 2011 World Performing Art title in the classical instrumental and contemporary category in Hollywood, Los Angeles.
The competition had attracted performers from 40 countries.
Nisa started playing the violin when she was 7 and is now a member of the Sarawak Symphony Orchestra.
The celebration to mark Malaysia Day would be attended by the Yang DiPertua Negeri, Tun Abang Muhammad Salahuddin, the prime minister and his deputy, Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin as well as Sarawak Chief Minister Tan Sri Abdul Taib Mahmud.
