Born with polio, the 23-year-old is wheelchair-bound. He was among 150 underprivileged people taken out for Hari Raya Aidilfitri shopping by the Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) Youth wing.

Taib, who is also the party president, and his wife, Puan Sri Ragad Kurdi, spent the whole day yesterday at a shopping mall picking out clothes for orphans, poor families and the disabled.

All of them came from the Samariang state constituency in Petra Jaya.

"This is a feeling I just cannot describe or know how to describe," said Taria, from Siol Kandis in Petra Jaya, while holding on to his navy blue baju Melayu.

"Having the chief minister pick out my clothes..." Taria's voice trailed as he was overcome by emotion.

Taria, the second youngest of 13 siblings, knew Taib and his wife would be joining them on the shopping trip but did not expect Taib to actually pick out his clothes.

"This baju is special. Really special. I am going to treasure this."

Taria's parents died several years ago and he is now being cared for by an elder sister who is unemployed.

Present were Sarawak Tourism and Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Openg and Deputy Science, Technology and Innovation Minister Datuk Fadillah Yusof.
