Islamic rules 'guide our nation'

SEREMBAN: THE stance undertaken by the government is way better than theories adopted by Western countries, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak.

.

He said this was because the government had always turned to the Quran and sunnah in grappling with issues and society.

"Any basis of decisions and thinking would be based on five elements in the maqasid al-shariah (the intentions of the shariah), which are the preservation of religion, mind, knowledge, offspring and civilisations.

"These elements would always be the stance and track for the government in its administration."

Najib urged Malaysians not to be deceived by the intent of some parties in fighting for Islam.

"There is no way the religion (Islam) can be judged based only on the colour of the flags. No matter how high one hoisted the flags, it would be pointless if there is no filling or content in the agenda."

The country, Najib said, recorded the best poverty abolishment plan among other Islamic countries worldwide.

"This proves that the government does not come up with empty promises.

"Former prime ministers have contributed to the development of the country, and I will continue to do the honour as the present prime minister to the rakyat."

Recalling last year's achievements, Najib said the country's revenue had recorded a RM26 billion increment in a year.

"From the revenue, the government was able to come up with the Bantuan Rakyat 1Malaysia (BR1M) to ease the burden of the people.

"God willing, if there are extra funds in the future, the scheme will be continued for a second, third, and fourth round to alleviate the people's burden in light of the rising cost of living."

He was speaking before 10,000 people at a buka puasa gathering at the RM10 million three-storey Masjid At-Taqwa in Paroi here yesterday.

Later, he delivered contribution of RM85,200 to 73 men and 210 women from hardcore poor families in the state.

Also present were his wife Datin Seri Rosmah Mansor, Information Communications and Culture Minister Datuk Seri Dr Rais Yatim, Works Minister Datuk Seri Shaziman Abu Mansor and Negri Sembilan Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan.
