Teachers feted in show of gratitude

PUTRAJAYA: About 250 teachers from Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Negri Sembilan were treated to a day of fun at the New Straits Times Press (NSTP) Bhd's teachers' appreciation day yesterday.

Organised by the NSTP Circulation Department, the event was held in appreciation of teachers who had used education pullouts from the New Straits Times and Berita Harian such as School Times, Didik, Skor, Minda and Varsiti.

Held at the Pullman Hotel here, the teachers were treated to performances, aerobic sessions, health talks from the National Population and Family Board and also a session with celebrity Datuk Sheila Majid on beauty tips and products.

Up to 18 schools also received certificates for the highest number of distribution of the two newspapers.

Berita Harian Education News Editor Fadzlena Jaafar handed over the certificates to the schools and said the programme, which is organised every year, was aimed at showing their gratitude to teachers who had played a major role in the success of their education pullouts.

Suzila Mustaffa, an English teacher from Sekolah Kebangsaan Jalan Empat in Bandar Baru Bangi, said the pullouts were extremely effective as they followed the school's syllabus.

"The students are used to the pullouts and there are definite improvements in their studies through their usage in class."

Fellow English teacher Philomina Arulnathan from Sekolah Kebangsaan Hisammuddin Alam Shah said the pullouts were used during class sessions and were a good alternative for the students.

She said the school was planning to subscribe to more newspapers in the future.
