Pakatan Rakyat ties 'just a facade'

AT LOGGERHEADS: PKR, Pas, DAP don't see eye to eye, especially on seat allocation

.

KUALA LUMPUR: THE rosy picture of good relations between opposition parties is a facade, said a former Parti Keadilan Rakyat Youth leader.

Parti Kesejahteraan Insan Tanah Air pro-tem president Zamil Ibrahim, who is a former Kedah PKR Youth chief, claimed there had always been a tussle between PKR, DAP and Pas, especially with regard to the distribution of electoral seats.

He said such squabbles pre-dated the 2008 general election where PKR had always tried to get the lion's share of seats. To prove his point, Zamil showed reporters a transcript of a video recording taken from a closed-door PKR meeting held at Yayasan Aman, Bukit Mertajam in January, 2008.

Those at the meeting were opposition leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim and northern region PKR leaders including the then Kedah PKR chairman Zamri Yusof, Jerai division chief B. Kalaivanan and Langkawi division chief Wan Salleh.

"The video shows how Anwar has no hesitation in slamming DAP and Pas in matters such as distribution of electoral seats," said Zamil, adding that political instability would occur later on due to the back-stabbing and greedy nature of the opposition.

According to the transcript of the video, Anwar allegedly told the PKR leaders that they must have more electoral seats than their allies as the Indian and Chinese communities wanted such an arrangement between the opposition alliance.

Only then, he said, would the community have confidence to vote for Pas.

"They are scared to vote for Pas, but with us, they will have no problem voting for them. You must remember, we are the strong ones. DAP and Pas are depending on us, so don't be scared of them," Anwar allegedly said in northern Malay dialect.

Zamil added that this "environment" between the opposition parties was still occurring to date.

"They (the opposition parties) simply do not see eye to eye on so many things and this will spell trouble for the country if they ever come to power."
