CLASSIC INDIAN MOVIES: Devote a channel to good old films
ASTRO should have a special channel for screening old classic movies. Astro subscribers of the English movie channels have HBO, MAX and Fox Movies Premium. Yet, these three channels do not screen Hollywood movies from the 60s, 70s and 80s. What is shown are repeats of fairly new movies. Maybe a channel could be devoted to screening old classic movies, including Westerns and musicals that would appeal to viewers in their fifties and sixties.
In the same manner, Astro should also screen Tamil and Hindi classic movies from the 60s, 70s and 80s. If an exclusive channel for old movies is not possible, then, Astro should use the existing channels to screen them at certain times of the day.
At the moment, what we get are blatant repeats of the latest movies and movies from the 90s all through the day on the Tamil and Hindi channels. There are so many memorable and wonderful Tamil and Hindi movies of that era that have not seen the light of day on our Astro screens. These movies have wonderful storylines, soothing tunes, good acting and memorable songs in rich Eastman colour. Sometimes, Astro keeps on repeating the same old classic films over and over again.
Bollywood's gentleman lover of the 60s and 70s, Rajesh Khanna died a few weeks back. He was the first superstar of the Indian cinema who gave 15 successive super hits between 1969 and 1972.
How many of these films were ever shown over Astro? He also has the distinction of being the hero of the Hindi movie, Haathi Mere Saathi, which was the first film in Malaysia to ever enjoy more than a 100-day run in a local theatre.
Hopefully, Astro will screen some of his memorable old movies such as Haathi Mere Saathi, Apna Desh, Daag, Raja Rani, Aradhana, Mere Jeevan Saathi, Kati Patang, Prem Nagar, Anand, Amar Prem and Aap Ki Kasam as a tribute and farewell to this superstar.
