MALAYSIA were crowned overall champions in the Southeast Asian (Seasa) Championships which concluded yesterday, with a haul of 33 gold, seven silver and 12 bronze medals at the Subang Shooting Range.

However, the national shooters should not be too proud of their achievement as most countries, including Thailand and Singapore, did not send their best who stayed home to prepare for the London Olympics.

Nonetheless, being overall champions will push the national shooters harder in their preparation for next year's Myanmar Sea Games.

Taiwan finished second in the standings with a haul of 9-2-4 followed by Vietnam (8-28-5).

The national double trap team comprising Bernard Yeoh, Ng Beng Chong and Ong Chee Kheng, clinched Malaysia's final gold by posting 324 targets followed by Singapore (322) and Taiwan (320).

Bernard also earned the individual bronze with a 128 total.

The Philippines' Ang Eric amassed 134 targets to bag the gold while Taiwan's Hsu Ching Huang finished third on 130.

"It's my worst score of the season but I expected it as I have not been competing since April. The juries here were distracting as they did not implement the new rules of double trap," said Bernard yesterday.

The Philippines will host next year's edition before the Sea Games.

Boys: 1 Bradley Wong (Sin) 103, 2 Laperal Miguel David (Phi) 93.

Women's double trap: 1 Srisangkram Janejira (Tha) 83, 2 Hoang Thi Tuat (Tai) 81, 3 Lin Yi Chun (Sin) 80; Team: 1 Taiwan 189, 2 Thailand 183, 3 Philippines 133.
