ELECTRIFYING: Kilat shine against CCCP to grab second final of the season
KILAT inched closer to a league and cup double after reaching their second final of the season with a 3-1 win over CCCP in the Division One league semi-finals at the Kilat ground last Sunday.
With an FA Cup final against Ikram Rovers also on the horizon, Kilat are in line for a unique double if they can overcome Sime Darby Plantation in the Division One final on June 22.
Goals from former Selangor striker S. Sritharan, Mohd Nizam and Zulfikili Che Din helped Kilat get past stubborn opposition in CCCP in the Division One semi-finals having a week earlier upset Premier Division side Sime Darby Industrial 2-1 in the FA Cup semi-finals.
SD Plantation needed a 5-4 penalty shootout win over Royal Electrical and Mechanical Engineering Corps after a 0-0 draw to book their place in the Division One final.
Kilat team manager Azlan David is ecstatic with his side's achievement though his team's journey is far from over.
"It was quite tough in the semi-finals against CCCP but we managed to pull through. We are now in two finals and the dream of a double remains alive. Some teams have poured in RM300,000 in an attempt to get where we are but we have disappointed many people to be in this position.
"Nobody can take this away from us and we are two wins away from realising our dream. We are mentally and physically prepared for both finals and we will be doing our best to win," said David.
It has been a long journey for Kilat to the finals as they scalped three top-flight sides including defending champions RHB Bank on the way to the FA Cup final.
"I am very proud of what the team has done with little ammunition. If we can win the trophies it would put the seal on a fantastic season," added David.
However, Kilat could be short-handed against SD Plantation in the Division One final with Sritharan expected to be sidelined after picking up a calf injury against CCCP.
"We have two or three players currently carrying injuries including Sritharan. It looks bad and I don't think he will make it back in time for the finals," said David.
The first trophy of the season will be given away tomorrow when Angkasapuri meet Petaling Putra in the Division Two final the Maybank Training Centre in Bangi.
The two teams have met once this season already in the league when Petaling Putra won 2-0. They eventually finished top of Group B and are currently unbeaten in the league this season after 13 matches.
They were also unfortunate to have been knocked out of the FA Cup on penalties by MBF Cards which means Petaling Putra have yet to be beaten in actual play this season.
