Pizzazz of a pizza boy's life

AFTER nearly knocking down a speeding pizza boy on his motorbike with my car in Subang Jaya the other day, I caught up with one of them for an interview. This is how it went:

Q: Hi, Pizza Boy, how fast do you go on your motorbike when making a delivery?

A: I can go as fast as 100kph when I am in a hurry.

Q: Wow! That's really fast. You must be crazy.

A: Sometimeslah... like when I am running late.

Q: Usually, what causes you to be late?

A: When there are too many orders and too few riders.

Q: Are you a pizza boy by day and a Mat Rempit by night?

A: Haha, nolah. I only watch them race.

Q: Is your job dangerous?

A: Never thought of that. Anyway, the company buys us insurance.

Q: Does your company give you a motorbike to deliver pizzas?

A: No, we have to buy our own bikes.

Q: Do you get free pizzas from your company?

A: Yes, I eat them every day, for lunch and dinner.

Q: Are you sick of eating pizzas?

A: Not yet... I try the different toppings, and I started this job only six months ago.

Q: Your job smells good. How much can you earn a month?

A: About RM2,500. I get a basic salary, and I am paid extra for every trip that I make.

Q: Do customers give you  tips or keep the change for themselves?

A: Sometimes... customers can pay as much as RM10 or nothing.

Q: Do I get a free pizza from your company if you are late by 30 minutes?

A: Yes, we give you a voucher for a free pizza.

Q: Are you riding fast because you don't want to give me a free pizza for being late?

A: No sir. It is just that I like to ride fast, delivery or no delivery.

Q: Have you or any other pizza boys crashed when making their runs?

A: Some of us have fallen, broken a bone or two.

Q: Do you know that a company in the US stopped its free pizza for late delivery because the speeding pizza boys became road hazards?

A: Really? We are just doing our jobs so that you people won't go hungry.

Q: When is your busiest period?

A:  It is usually during the weekends when people are too lazy to cook or are having parties.

Q:  Do you want to be a pizza boy for life?

A: No. I am saving up some money for my studies. Most of us do this for only a couple of years.

Q: If it rains, will I still get my pizza in 30 minutes?

A: We will ride with raincoats. But you will have to wait for one hour. And don't expect any free pizza if we are late.

Q: Do you beat traffic lights when delivering pizzas?

A: No. I know the shortcuts in my areas and I usually arrive on time.

Q: Why is it that I see you boys not stopping at traffic lights?

A: That couldn't be me... must be my pals.
