BUKIT Tinggi 1 residents are weighed down by the persistent problem of heavy vehicles illegally parked in the neighbourhood and along the main road of Jalan Batu Nilam, here.

A resident who wished to be known as Munuswuamy said those living there had borne the problem for seven years.

He said the factory buses and lorries parked on the road shoulders, make it difficult for residents to drive in and out of their homes.

"We have to put up with the congestion daily. The loud engine noises are unbearable in the morning and even worse at night, when the drivers come to park their vehicles here. And there's the air pollution on top of it all.

"Those leaving for work in the mornings have to carefully manoeuvre their way around at least 10 haphazardly parked heavy vehicles."

The roads in the neighbourhood had also been damaged by the buses and lorries, claimed  Munuswuamy.

He said complaints had been made to the Klang Municipal Council (MPK), which had yet to take action.

"When I called the council, they told me that I should text a message the officer in-charge. So I did and till today there has been no action taken.

"I called the council secretary, who instead gave me a toll-free number for complaints," he said.

He said assemblyman Dr Xavier Jeyakumar visited the area two years ago, with no tangible result.

However, Bukit Tinggi 1 MP Charles Santiago had not visited the neighbourhood at all since he was elected, claimed Munuswuamy.

He said the buses belonged to a private operator.

The resident was also concerned that several rows of houses in the neighbourhood were being converted into business and commercial units.

He is asking the local council  to address the problem as soon as possible. At press time, the council could not be reached for comment.
