YOUTH BODIES: Some 250 secondary school students from six Leo clubs in the Klang Valley gather for a special ceremony

  KUALA LUMPUR: MORE than 250 secondary school students from six Leo clubs in the Klang Valley will be congregating for  the 12th Kuala Lumpur Leos Joint Installation Ceremony on Friday.

   The event will take place from 9am to 1pm at the YMCA Hall in Jalan Padang Belia, off Jalan Tun Sambanthan, here.

  The event themed Many Dreams Lead to One Vision will feature the induction ceremony of incoming Leo members and the installation of the key cabinet officers, namely president, secretary and treasurer, from the six participating Leo clubs -- SMK Cochrane (the organising club), SMK Jinjang, SMK Damansara Utama,  SMK Kepong Baru, SMK Bukit Jalil and SMK USJ 13.

  Leading the officers in their pledge-taking will be Foo See Yow, the Lions District 308 B-1  chairman in charge of Leo development.

  Then there will be the gavel presentation by the presidents or Leo advisers of the sponsoring Lions clubs to the respective Leo presidents.

  Witnessing the proceedings will be guest-of-honour Chan Hoi, the District Governor of Lions Clubs International District 308 B1, Malaysia. The 12th KL Leos Joint Installation Ceremony, whose theme is One Team, One Vision, will present members with the opportunity to meet and interact with one another, as well as to show their support for those being inducted and installed.

  Several Leos will also be presenting song and dance performances, with a special piano recital by the event's organising chairperson, Kow Wai Wai, who is also the new president of the Leo Club of SMK Cochrane.

  Leo Clubs are the youth organisations of Lions Clubs International.  Leo stands for "Leadership, Experience, Opportunity".

  The Leo Club objective is to provide the youth of the world with an opportunity for contribution, individually and collectively, as responsible members of the local, national and international community.

  The first Leo Club was founded in 1957 by Jim Graver, the coach of the Abington High School Pennsylvania baseball team. In 1964, the Leo Club programme became a sponsored programme of the Lions district.
