Postgraduate: Inventing devices that make life easier
THE International Invention and Technology Exibition (ITEX) is a prestigious exibition organised yearly by Malaysian Invention and Design Society (MINDS), to exibit new innovations, technology and products.
Participation from The Manpower Department’s Training Institutions (ILJTM) will encourage and motivate the instructors to produce innovative and updated projects in order to commercialise and seek international recognition of the projects. This year, ILJTM presented four innovative projects to be evaluated. They are:
Kuih Siput Machine – JMTI:
This machine uses the combination of the electro-pneumatic and electrical wiring principles. The electro-pneumatic principle is used to control the pressing and cutting process to produce ‘kuih siput’.
The electrical wiring principle is applied to supply power to the whole system which consists of a miniature circuit breaker, an emergency stop button and a restorer switch.
Portable Automatic Grilling Apparatus for Grilled Skewered Foodstuff – ADTEC BATU PAHAT: This invention uses electric heaters suitable for indoor food service outlets such as food courts, hotels and restaurants. The conveyor system is powered by an alternating current motor and is specifically designed so that the sticks of satay will automatically be released from the device and be collected at a hopper on the other side of the tray. The grilling of the satay is done to a desired degree of doneness through the calibration of the conveyor speed and the intensity of the heating elements. The grilling apparatus weighs less than 10 kilogrammes making it light and portable.
Smart Mover X – ADTEC KULIM: Smart Mover X is a solution to carrying gas cylinders. This innovative product is made to solve problems encountered when handling the gas cylinder at home, especially among women and the elderly because of its weight. Smart Mover X is designed to lift the gas cylinder in a convenient way especially when going up and down the stairs and can reduce individual energy consumption up to 50 per cent.
Autostarts Car System by GSM Control and Monitoring with Android Operating Application – ILP KEPALA BATAS: This project focuses on the design, development and implementation of the hardware and software for vehicle control systems. It uses a microcontroller PIC16F887 and frequency GSM/GPRS modem MD720-3 as an interface that has several advantages including a low-cost design implementation, minimum hardware requirements, is small in size and protects against currents,
temperature and module failures.
The application interface is capable of controlling the engine system, air-conditioning system and car security system. It also monitors these systems via GSM
frequencies which is sent directly to the consumers’ their mobile phones using an Android operating system.
