Undergraduate Focus: A link to movie, digital design industries
AVATAR, The Lord of the Rings and Tintin are ground-breaking films that have drawn global attention to New Zealand’s burgeoning film production and post-production capabilities and creative talent. The demand for highly skilled new talent by the screen industry continues to grow and the opportunity for exposure through comprehensive visual effects and 3D animation education in New Zealand is now available to students of PJ College of Art & Design.
Media Design School, internationally renowned for producing outstanding professionals for the creative industries, is providing an exclusive articulation and higher education pathway for students of PJ College of Art and Design (PJCAD) – a member of the Laureate International Universities network – to pursue a digital and creative technology qualification. This is one of the many benefits available to students across the Laureate network to ensure their educational experience is truly international.
PJCAD’s Diploma in Interactive Multimedia & Animation Design holders need only complete an additional one-and-a half years at MDS for the Bachelor of Art & Design (3D Animation & Visual Effects) degree.
The MDS articulation pathway provides students ample learning and career opportunities via MDS’ strong links with the movie and digital design industries in New Zealand. MDS faculty members have vast experiences through their working relationships with digital design industry leaders including Weta Digital, Weta Production, Pixar and Dreamworks.
MDS’ platform for final year degree students to work directly on real industry projects ensures that graduates enjoy high employability. In the final stages of their degree, students create high-quality group and individual productions.
These projects challenge students to learn the production process for making films while working effectively under tight deadlines. International students who receive employment offers are eligible to work in New Zealand for up to one year.
PJCAD’s Diploma in Interactive Multimedia & Animation Design is a broad-based programme that creates far-reaching opportunities in an exciting and rapidly expanding area of multimedia technology and a variety of vocational, research and further study options. It aims to provide students with the skills and knowledge to author, design and develop digital content and apply appropriate design solutions for interactive multimedia products in the retail, entertainment, educational and tourism industries.
“Our further study options via advanced credit transfer give students an affordable pathway towards an international qualification from an established world-class institution abroad. This learning experience outweighs many other qualifications in terms of the overall teaching and learning experience, academic resources and the social cultural context,” says David Liew, Chief Executive of PJCAD.
PJCAD is a member of INTI, which in turn is a part of Laureate International Universities – the world’s largest private education network. Students considering PJCAD will not only benefit from the years of experience and strong track-record that INTI offers, but also gain from the global synergy and resources that Laureate provides. Laureate is present in 29 countries, and serves more than 675,000 students globally.
