STUDENTS of the Faculty of Creative Arts and Design of SEGi College Subang Jaya were extremely fortunate to have Tyler Stableford – one of the world’s greatest adventure photographers and Canon’s Explorer of Light – give them a photography workshop on working with lights recently.

Tyler Stableford is a freelance photographer, who also travels the world holding workshops and seminars. Besides his passion for photography, he is also into film-making.

He conducted a two-hour ‘Explorer of Lights Workshop’ exclusively for 20 SEGi students eager to learn the ways of his photography. The 20 lucky students received hands-on experience on how to work with and use lights. Each student was also given a one-on-one lesson with Stableford.

Besides getting a chance to learn from the best in the industry, SEGi students also have the opportunity to display their talent through an annual exhibition called the MAD (media, art and design) Showcase on 12 and 13 May.

The showcase acts as a platform for students to exhibit their art work for final evaluation. The MAD showcase also attracts companies for future employment. The graduating students have to organise the entire showcase, giving them invaluable experience in event management as well.

Apart from creative arts and design courses, SEGi Education Group also offers music and mass communication programmes.

Diploma in Music students at SEGi College Subang Jaya are extremely lucky because they are led by one of the best in the music industry – Yii Kah Hoe – Senior Music Lecturer, who is also an accomplished award-winning composer and musician, highly acknowledged in the music circle in Malaysia and abroad.

His compositions have been performed in at least 10 international music festivals and a host of concerts in major cities in at least 16 countries. He also conducts ongoing research projects to collect folk music and ethno musical materials across regions.

Since 2010 he has been giving masterclass lectures at universities in Thailand, the Philippines and Taiwan. Founded in 2000, the Music Department has since become one of the main private higher learning institutions for music education.

Graduates of diplomas in video and animation, graphic design, advertising design and creative multimedia have the option to transfer into the Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design and subsequently the Bachelor of Computer Graphic Design with Honours at the Universal College of Learning (UCOL) Wanganui School of Design, New Zealand.

Wanganui School of Design was established in the late 1980s and has since gained an international reputation for its experimental work in new media and graphic design. Its computer suites are among the best in the Pacific Rim with state-of-the-art technology for both multimedia authoring and graphic design exploration.
