THE University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus is a prominent epitome of education and research excellence. It was established in 2000 and made history by becoming the first British university to open a fully operational overseas branch campus.

Colin Campbell, who was then the Vice Chancellor, said that the opening of the university culminates the 50 years of educational links between Malaysia and the UK. Ten years on, the university is proudly celebrating a decade of international educational provision and research excellence at the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus.

The university first opened its doors in Kuala Lumpur with just 300 students and offered courses in management and business, electrical and electronic engineering, computer science and information technology. The current student population in Malaysia has grown to a community of approximately 4,500 students from 72 countries and based at the 50.5-hectacre campus located in Semenyih.

The university is now proudly celebrating 12 years of international educational and research excellence at UNMC and is recognised by the Malaysian government as one of the nation’s elite higher education providers and is committed to developing high quality education in Asia.

In June 2010 the university was rated ‘excellent’ in The Rating System for Malaysian Higher Education, known as Setara. This accolade followed the conferment of ‘Self-Accrediting Status’ on UNMC by the Malaysian Ministry of Higher Education. This highly significant move grants UNMC the power to approve and accredit its own degree programmes.

The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus now provides foundation, undergraduate and postgraduate courses in all major disciplines in three faculties of science, arts and social sciences, and engineering.

The University of Nottingham Today: The university remains popular among students as the programmes offered are identical to those offered at Nottingham UK. This captures the interest of local and international students especially those who are convinced by the high quality and recognition associated with a UK qualification.
