The University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) is currently accepting students for the September intake of its newly launched School of Biomedical Sciences.

“Biomedical sciences is a vital part of today’s healthcare. There is a growing interest in this area of study as more students are enquiring about our courses and signing up ahead of the upcoming semester. Much of the interest among students is because of the ground-breaking research treatments for old and emerging diseases,” Dr Ting Kang Nee, Director of Studies at the new school says.

Biomedical science graduates from UNMC will work alongside scientists and healthcare professionals to discover, design and develop new treatment of illnesses. They will also be trained in the following areas:

    • discovering new cures for old diseases

    • explaining how the brain and other complex human systems work

    • training to become a medical doctors

    • conducting ground-breaking research for cosmetics, pharmaceutical,
          and the food industry

    • writing scientific articles and commentaries to be published in leading
          science journals and newspapers

“Our degree will equip students with skills and competencies that are important to employers in science, medicine, healthcare – as well as non-scientific fields such as finance, IT or general management. UNMC biomedical science graduates can also further their studies to a master’s, PhD or even graduate medical degree course,” adds Dr Ting.

“UNMC first started the School of Pharmacy in 2005.  That was the beginning of UNMC‘s expansion into healthcare courses. We are now introducing this school in response to the growing needs and demands of the market,” says Professor Ian Pashby, CEO and Provost of UNMC.

“There is a large interest among students in medical disciplines.  Many are studying pharmacy, biosciences and biomedical sciences because of the wide range of careers available. This course is also more affordable to self-funding students,” he adds.

UNMC offers a three-year, full-time degree programme in biomedical sciences, which is currently open for registration and consultation.
