A TOTAL of 21 Diploma in Nursing graduates were employed by two established Singaporean hospitals in a two-day interview session at SEGi University College. Officials from Changi General Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital interviewed graduates one after another selecting the best candidates for their hospitals.

Apart from these two organisations, MOH Holdings (Singapore) was also present to recruit SEGi nursing graduates. MOH Holdings is a recruitment agency for large healthcare institutions in Singapore such as National University Hospital, Singapore General Hospital, Singhealth, Changi General Hospital and Tan Tock Seng Hospital.

Tan Tock Seng Hospital offered jobs to 13 graduates while Changi General Hospital gave conditional offers to eight graduates who were still completing the ASET programme at SEGi and awaiting their Lembaga Jururawat Malaysia examination results.

Lachumy Krishnan was one of the graduates employed by Tan Tock Seng Hospital – the oldest and most reputable government hospital in Singapore.

She credits part of her success in clinching the job to her lecturers as well as to the extra confidence and knowledge gained from the one-month ASET (Accelerated Skills Enhancement Training) programme that she attended at SEGi.

“My nursing lecturers have been wonderfully supportive. They have made a great difference to my studies. In fact, I’m happy to study at SEGi because of the lecturers, the campus and the management.

“Thanks to the ASET programme, my proficiency in English improved greatly. So did my self-confidence. We also got extra knowledge in healthcare management,” she says.

Ignatius Anak Boneng from SEGi University College, also hired by Tan Tock Seng Hospital, agrees with Lachumy.

“The ASET programme also includes public speaking exercises that help build our confidence for the interviews,” he adds.

The interview sessions were organised by the SEGi Student Career Services Centre (SCS), which matched SEGi graduates and students with companies from a wide range of industries over a period of more than a month.
