SUBANG JAYA: More than 1,000 pupils and teachers of Sekolah Menengah USJ 13, here, ran out of their classrooms when a fire broke out in a room on the second floor of the four-storey school building yesterday morning.

The fire started in the store room where equipment for co-curricular activities are stored. However, no one was hurt in the incident but the school's afternoon session had to be cancelled.

The school authorities contacted parents to inform them of the fire and told them to take their children home.

Subang Jaya Fire and Rescue Department chief Deputy Superintendent Mohd Khairi Daud said they were still investigating the cause of the fire and estimating the losses.

Khairi also said four fire engines with 21 personnel from the Puchong, Subang Jaya and Jalan Penchala fire stations fought the blaze and prevented the fire from spreading to adjacent blocks.

The blaze was brought under control in 20 minutes.
