PETALING JAYA: Seventeen vehicles, including two school vans and a school bus, were damaged during a pre-dawn clash between two gangs at Desa Ria Flats here on Tuesday.

It is learnt that the gangs were fighting over a woman and the members wreaked havoc by damaging 14 cars, the vans and the bus in the 2.45am incident.

Police later detained 16 men and seized 10 parang and a golf club believed to have been used in the clash.

District police chief Assistant Commissioner Arjunaidi Mohamed said eight of the men were remanded while the rest were released.

He said the fight was believed to have started over a 21-year-old woman who left her boyfriend for a man who lived in the area.

He said the ex-boyfriend and his gang went to look for them and the gang only dispersed when the police were called in.

On Tuesday evening, the gangs met up again at the same location, but dispersed when police showed up at the scene.

Police are now looking for 31-year-old N. Harichandran, also known as "Harri Boy", whose last known address is Blok 9, Desa Mentari, to assist in investigations.

The case is being investigated for rioting and causing damage to property.
