AFFORDABLE: 111 units of Pr1ma homes planned in Demak Laut for first-time buyers
KUCHING: THE second phase of the 1Malaysia Housing Programme (Pr1ma), aimed at reducing the financial burden on first-time homeowners, will be launched here tomorrow.
State Housing Minister Datuk Amar Abang Johari Openg said the ministry, through the Housing Development Corporation (HDC) and Pr1ma Corporation, was planning to construct quality affordable housing in Demak Laut for young home buyers, with an income of between RM2,500 and RM7,500.
“The government sees the need to mitigate the financial burden of young middle-income earners owing to the high cost of living, particularly in the urban areas,” he said yesterday.
Abang Johari said the state government had already approved the development of 111 units of double-storey terrace houses measuring 1,300 square feet each, which would begin as soon as an agreement is reached between Pr1ma, HDC and a private developer.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak is expected to launch the project during his visit to the two-day Jelajah Janji Ditepati carnival and expo in Petra Jaya here, where an exhibition unit will be open to the public for viewing at the Pr1ma booth.
Abang Johari said the houses, which would feature contemporary designs with four rooms and three bathrooms, would also be sold lower than the market price.
“For houses under Pr1ma, the government will subsidise up to 10 per cent of the market price, bringing the selling price of each house to between RM150,000 and RM300,000,” he said, adding that the project was expected to be completed within 18 to 24 months.
He said interested buyers and members of the public should visit and register their particulars at the Pr1ma booth.
Eligible buyers will be contacted once the project is implemented.
