BACHOK: A mother and her two daughters were killed while her niece was seriously injured when their car collided with a lorry near here yesterday.
Maisarah Mohd Ali, 34, and her daughter, Zakiah Hanim Uda, 4, died on the spot.
Her 2-year-old daughter, Rasyidah, died shortly after she arrived at Universiti Sains Malaysia Hospital Kubang Kerian in Kota Baru.
Maisarah's 7-year-old niece, Aishah Syakilah, was admitted to the hospital.
Maisarah and the children were heading home to Pasir Putih in a car when it collided with a lorry which was transporting ice cubes near SMK Pak Badol at 9am.
District police chief Deputy Superintendent Ab Rahim Che Ghani said Maisarah had earlier sent her husband, Uda Sarimin, 31, to Sultan Ismail Petra Airport in Pengkalan Chepa, Kota Baru, before driving home.
"We believe Maisarah lost control of the car before it swerved onto the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming lorry."
District fire and rescue services operations chief Azmi Ibrahim said firemen arrived at the crash scene shortly after receiving an emergency call.
He said 80 per cent of the car was damaged.
