ALOR STAR: Some 800 descendants of Tok Nai Din, the founder of Kampung Paya Pahlawan in Jitra, gathered to celebrate Hari Raya yesterday.

The 800 members from more than 100 families, from the fifth to the thirteenth generation gathered to foster relationship and celebrate the Hari Raya with Tok Nai Din.

Event organiser Sheikh Alauddin Sheikh Abu Bakar, 51, said the family gathering was to ensure good relationship between family members.

At the gathering, held at Bangunan Guru in Jalan Pegawai, here, Sheikh Alauddin said the family members who had joined the event yesterday gathered here from all parts of the country, including Sabah and Sarawak.

He said the idea of having the annual meeting was derived from his father Datuk Sheikh Abu Bakar in 1974 and since then the practice had been carried out.

"Those days, the invitations were by word of mouth but now things are different and technology has helped us so much in terms of staying connected with one another. So now invitations are extended using Facebook and blogs.

"Alhamdulillah, the response we received was very encouraging and we even saw 1,000 family members from Brazil and Australia gather four years ago," he said.
