KUALA LUMPUR: Several programmes have been lined up to celebrate Merdeka Day.

Apart from the Merdeka Day parade at Dataran Merdeka, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak will attend the Janji Ditepati gathering to commemorate the nation's 55th independence at Bukit Jalil Stadium in the evening.

The online community has planned a TwtUpMerdeka (Twitter gathering) during the event and will tweet updates using the hashtag #Merdeka55.

Other programmes include the Keroncong Merdeka showcase by the Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra the same night.

Singers Datuk Yusni Hamid and Datin Paduka Julie Sudiro will perform at the event.

Food lovers can celebrate the event with a feast of local and international flavours at the Merdeka Day high-tea at One World Hotel, Petaling Jaya.
