KLANG: He introduced himself as a People's Volunteer Corps (Rela) member and claimed to be an authorised government agent to fool employers and illegal immigrants.

The 33-year-old conman, who is believed to be part of a syndicate, was said to have cheated them out of more than RM100,000 by using another authorised agent's name to "register" the illegals in the 6P Programme.

The man was said to prey on employers, especially restaurant owners, in Petaling Jaya and Klang, who would pay a processing fee of RM1,800.

Klang MCA Youth chief Ching Eu Boon said more than 20 employers had lodged complaints with the wing.

"Most of the victims were issued fake documents and authorisation letters. They paid a processing fee of RM1,800 for each illegal worker without checking the verification of the agent and his company with the Home Ministry.

"They were promised the legalisation papers but as soon as the monies were paid, the man had either refused to see them or stated that he was busy whenever contacted."
