ATTRACTIVE: First time Volkswagen giving away car as prize for event organised by NSTP
KUALA LUMPUR: WHAT is a motor hunt without a car prize? That is exactly what Volkswagen Group Malaysia Sdn Bhd is giving out as a grand prize for the New Sunday Times Motor Hunt 2012 on Sunday.
Its managing director Ricky Tay said the sponsorship of a Polo Sedan reflected the close relationship between Volkswagen and the New Straits Times Press group.
"We have collaborated with NSTP in so many endeavours, but this is the first time we are sponsoring a car for their event.
"We hope the car prize would add more excitement as well as motivate participants to give their best in the event."
Tay said the company, which has 18 branches nationwide, was also hoping that the sponsorship would help debunk the notion that Volkswagen cars were "too pricey" or "not-for-me".
He said Volkswagen was supportive of healthy events like treasure hunts, which helped inculcate team-building, cooperation and discipline.
The Polo Sedan was launched three months ago, the first Volkswagen car priced under RM100,000.
Besides the car, Volkswagen is sponsoring RM50,000 for the hunt.
Tay presented the car sponsorship to NSTP group managing editor Abdul Jalil Hamid at Wisma Volkswagen, here, yesterday.
The motor hunt, which is divided into three categories (regular, beginners and members of the media and sponsors), will take participants to various areas in the Klang Valley where they have to answer riddles and obtain hidden treasures.
The champions in each category will take home RM5,000.
Prizes will be awarded up to the fifth position in the regular and media/sponsor categories while for beginners, it goes right up to the 30th position.
The motor hunt, with Purple Antz as the clerk-of-course, is sponsored among others by BlackBerry smartphones developer RIM (Research in Motion Malaysia Sdn Bhd), Felda Holdings, AirAsia X Sdn Bhd, Star Cruises, Sime Darby, Tesco, Bank Pembangunan Malaysia Bhd, Kingston, LG Electronics Malaysia, Canon Malaysia, Epson, Lactacyd, Julie's Biscuits, Permodalan Nasional Bhd, Permanis Sandilands Sdn Bhd and TomTom, supplier of in-car location and navigation products and services.
The fuel sponsor is Petronas while Holiday Villa Hotel & Suites Subang is the venue sponsor.
Among the major hotel sponsors are Ri-Yaz Hotels and Resorts, Hyatt Regency Kuantan Resort, A'Famosa Resort Malaysia, Philea Resort & Spa in Malacca, Best Western Premier Dua Sentral and the Datai, Langkawi.
Other hotels which have sponsored rooms, F&B vouchers and merchandise are Hard Rock Hotel Penang, G Hotel Penang, DoubleTree by Hilton Kuala Lumpur, Sunway Putra Hotel Kuala Lumpur, Impiana KLCC Hotel, Federal Hotels International, Putrajaya Marriott Hotel & Spa, Holiday Villa Hotels & Resorts and One World Hotel.
