KUALA LUMPUR: A couple was killed and a woman seriously injured in an accident near the Sungai Besi roundabout in Jalan Loke Yew here.

At 11.45pm on Wednesday, 37-year-old Pang Chee Yong lost control of his car, which flipped several times before hitting a road divider and a lamp post.

Pang's car then landed on top of another vehicle on the opposite side of the road, pinning the couple in their car.

City traffic investigation and legal staff officer Deputy Superintendent Abdullah Roning said Lee Kian Hoo, 30, and his girlfriend, Choo Pei Pei, 24, died on the spot.

Pang, believed to be driving from Kajang to the city, sustained head injuries and was sent to Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia Medical Centre.

It is learnt that the couple were on their way to Seremban after going to a night market in Taman Connaught, Cheras.

Lee's sister said she was informed by her parents of the accident at 1.30am.

"My brother went out with his girlfriend of several months around 10pm that night. I wasn't home at the time but I received the shock of my life when my parents in Rawang called and informed me that he's dead.

"I can't believe he is gone," she said.

The victims' remains were claimed by their families around noon yesterday.
