KOTA KINABALU: Airline tycoon Tan Sri Tony Fernandes will share his success stories during a business luncheon talk tomorrow, a prelude to the Sabah International Expo (SIE) this year.
The AirAsia Berhad group chief executive officer wants to inspire young entrepreneurs by sharing his experiences in the aviation industry, involvement in English Premier League club and Tune franchises.
SIE 2012 organising chairman Datuk Seri Wong Khen Thau said this was in line with ongoing efforts to turn Sabah into a major hub and economic powerhouse in the region.
"In fact, business matchings will be held at the sidelines of the expo between local and foreign delegations to pave the way towards this purpose," he said in a press conference here.
A multi-sector trade fair, SIE 2012 is on its seventh year and will be held from Friday to Monday at Magellan Sutera Harbour.
It is a state government-sanctioned event organised by the Federation of Sabah Manufacturers and the Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce & Industries Sabah branch with the cooperation of the Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation and Ministry of Industrial Development.
More than 200 booths would be showcased, with exhibitors from Malaysia and 24 countries, including from Japan, Germany, United Kingdom, Pakistan, Thailand and Nigeria.
"Thirty per cent of the booths have been taken up by foreign exhibitors, which is a good response.
"However, we have reduced the number of booths in general compared with previous expos as we want to focus more on quality and what they have to offer, rather than on quantity."
Among the key participating sectors are oil and gas, palm oil, manufacturing, agriculture, automotive parts, real estate and service sectors.
