Former chef jailed for stealing cutlery

KUALA LUMPUR: "I needed money to pay for my mother's diabetes medicine." This was the excuse given by a former chef who pleaded guilty to stealing seven stainless steel trays and a decorative flower pot from a private club. That excuse, however, was brushed aside by magistrate Zaki Asyraf Zubir who sentenced K. Surendran, who pleaded guilty to stealing the items, to a month's jail and fined him RM500. The club's manager, Cosmos Peter Gomes, noticed Surendran behaving suspiciously and followed him to the 22nd floor where he was nabbed.
