KUALA LUMPUR: Heavy rain lashed the city for about an hour yesterday, causing flash floods in several areas and the collapse of the ceiling at a government clinic in Jinjang here.
Jinjang Fire and Rescue Department officer Rosli Haris said 10 patients were at the clinic's waiting area when the leaky roof caused the ceilings in the waiting area and several rooms to collapse.
No one was injured in the 5pm incident which damaged several pieces of high-tech medical equipment.
There were also reports of flash floods in Jalan Antoi in Kepong Baru, Jalan Kelapa Bulan near the Segambut commuter station here, Jalan Kuching, Kepong and Segambut.
In Jalan Kelapa Bulan, five cars were submerged in 1m of floodwaters after Sungai Keroh overflowed and flooded the road, before receding 20 minutes later.
In Genting Highlands, four minor landslides occurred along the main road to the highland resort following a downpour at 2pm yesterday.
One of the landslides near the Chin Swee Temple and Awana Golf and Country Resort caused traffic congestion and was cleared two hours later.
The Malaysian Meteorological Department yesterday issued an orange alert predicting heavy rain and thunderstorm in the capital and several areas in Selangor, Johor, Perak and Malacca.
